Vanilla that’s anything but Ordinary

We searched for a long time to find the perfect vanilla bean, and it was destiny when we finally discovered a little known vanilla bean from Madagascar. The minute we tasted it, we knew it would be an extraordinary ingredient for Sahale Snacks® Nut Blends.

A bite-sized history lesson

To many, the vanilla bean may seem like an ordinary grocery store ingredient. But it has a long and storied history filled with intrigue and passion.

Vanilla beans were known only in Mexico until the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés came along in the 1520s. Cortés is, of course, well known for his hunt for gold. But some would argue that the real gold he brought back to Europe was both vanilla and chocolate.

Vanilla bean is the second-most expensive spice after saffron. That’s because growing the seedpods still involves so much handwork. Even now, it’s hoarded and speculated on in the market just like gold.

Pro tip

Try swapping out your standard vanilla extract for pure Madagascar vanilla powder. You can really taste the difference.

One of our favorite suggestions is to mix vanilla powder with sugar and sprinkle it over strawberries or sub it in on top of a crème brûlée. Be prepared to be stunned!
