Traditionally called "Indian saffron" because of its deep yellow color, turmeric has been used as a condiment, a textile dye and a health remedy. In fact, it’s unclear whether turmeric was first used as a medicine or for its exotic, tropical flavor.
You’ll find turmeric in a lot of Indian and Southeast Asian cooking. And it’s routinely added to mustard blends and relishes here in the West.
